Pogo Mine Road Fire shows large growth to northeast merging with smaller fires

By Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection on August 5, 2023

Afternoon Chinook winds increased activity on the Pogo Mine Road Fire (#191) causing growth on the northeast corner of the fire. This resulted in the fire merging with 6-Mile Pogo Fire (#196) and other smaller fires in the area. The Pogo Mine Road Fire is now an estimated 17,951 acres.

The fire also showed growth on the southwest corner, crossing over Shaw Creek into Shaw Creek Flats about 2-miles northeast of Mile 283 Richardson Highway. Fire Bosses and helicopters with water dropping buckets worked into the evening supporting firefighters on the ground.
